Frequently Asked Questions

How can I book an appointment?

Currently, we are unable to see patients and are maintaining a waitlist; we will contact you as soon as appointments become available.

I have chest pain and/or an acute health symptom and/or a new illness or disease, how do I contact your doctors for care?

We do not provide treatment for acute medical conditions; please seek immediate assistance from your GP or contact emergency services for urgent care.

When will I hear back after submitting an enquiry?

While we strive to respond to all emails, we cannot provide a specific time frame for replies; we appreciate your patience and understanding.

I really value your doctors - can they become my regular GP?

We work in partnership with GPs to support your wellness journey, but we cannot replace or serve as your primary care provider. Our doctors specialise in prevention of disease rather than providing healthcare - for all medication scripts, healthcare paperwork, certificates, and care for your acute and/or chronic healthcare conditions, please see your regular GP or emergency service.

What is included in the initial assessment?

Our initial assessment includes a comprehensive health evaluation with a suite of proprietary screens and medical diagnostic tests tailored to your individual needs, with optional add-on tests available, if you meet the eligibility criteria.

What are the additional add-ons that I can order?

HealthSpans specialises in anti-aging dermatologics, cardiac imaging, entire systems and whole body lesion detection (through whole body MRI and/or CT scans), as well as psychiatric assessment. If eligibility criteria are met, these can be included in your package of preventative and diagnostic healthcare screening tests.

What tests are included in the initial assessment?

We offer one of Australia’s most extensive head-to-toe diagnostic evaluations, encompassing heart health, metabolic function, autoimmune conditions, kidney and liver function, hormone balance, bone and muscle health, aerobic capacity, nutrition, inflammatory markers, and mental health screens. The specific tests will be discussed with you during the initial consultation.

What is the Medicare Safety Net and how does it help me?

The Extended Medicare Safety Net is designed for individuals and families who have high out-of-pocket medical costs, perhaps because they have a chronic disease or a complex condition, such as those treated by many psychiatrists. Once you pay a certain amount in out-of-pocket medical fees during a calendar year, the extended safety net kicks in. After that point, Medicare will begin to pay 80% of the gap (out of pocket expense), in addition to the usual rebate.

Medicare keeps a tally of out-of-pocket costs you have paid and once the threshold is reached, you will receive the higher benefit for the rest of the year. To see the threshold amounts, click this link. It is important that family’s also register as a family (even if family members are listed on the same Medicare card) so that one single threshold tally is applied to all family members as a collective - click here for more information. Concession card holders, pensioners and other eligible individuals have a lower threshold, which may significantly reduce your healthcare costs.

Why do doctors at your rooms require a deposit when I book?

Many patients book appointments and then fail to attend without notice. This means that people like you have to wait longer for medical care. You might be surprised to learn just how many people simply do not show for appointments they book. A deposit signals your commitment and intention to attend your appointment. It is refundable prior to your appointment if you cancel with at least three business days notice, and it is subtracted from the total appointment cost. As such, you should not be disadvantaged by paying a deposit if you plan to attend. We thank you in advance for your commitment to your appointment and your health.

Can medical treatments be prescribed at me appointment?

No. HealthSpan doctors will never prescribe medications, and if these are needed, a letter to your GP will be provided. This is because we are not available for consultation in between appointments, so limit medical advice to recommendations and referrals rather than action provision of healthcare.

Do doctors at HealthSpans offer a bulk-billing service?

No, doctors do not offer bulk-billing; there is a private gap fee for consultations with all doctors. If you need a bulk-billing service due to financial hardship, please contact the intake team at your local public healthcare service or a local hospital near you. Doctors at HealthSpans strive to offer their clients a boutique medical diagnostic service that is time intensive and expertly tailored to your unique needs.

Do doctors at HealthSpans offer telehealth appointments?

Yes. You can attend via telehealth at any time. Because physical assessments cannot be performed when attending via telehealth, you are advised to also make an appointment with your referring GP for a physical health check-ups.

You referred me to a different provider - do they work for you?

Whenever a practitioner at HealthSpans recommends, refers, or connects you with third-party Australian-registered medical practitioner or specialist, these professionals will independently assess your needs, use their medical expertise, and determine the most appropriate treatments or alternative therapies for you. We do not oversee or guarantee the quality, outcomes, or advice provided by these third parties, including any products or services they may offer. They may form an opinion that differs from ours after they conduct their own independent assessment and offer or provide treatment that is other than what we recommended, with their discretion.

How do you perform your analysis and provide results?

Your doctor will use the information you provide, including recent medical data and test results, to create your personalised report and program. Only relevant and recent data will be reviewed unless otherwise specified by you, so it’s your responsibility to highlight important results for consideration.
